On June 8th 2007, at the Central Garden Hotel in Beijing, ISVH
held it's second International Chinese Congress in front of over
six hundred delegates.
The two day congress was opened by Government officials,
including Professors Lisheng Liu from Beijing and Lansheng Gong
from Shanghai.
The Congress Chairman, Pr Hongyu Wang (Peoples Hospital,
Beijing) opened the Congress with the theme that "early
detection of Vascular Disease is a key strategy for healthcare
in China, and around the world".
The first International speaker was Professor John Cockcroft
(University of Cardiff, UK). Professor Cockcroft discussed the
topic "Arterial Stiffness as a therapeutic target in the
management of Vascular Disease".
The second Speaker was Professor Kenji Takazawa (Tokyo
University, Japan) who demonstrated that there are two systolic
pressures in the arterial pulse .
A lively discussion followed, enhanced by the presentation by
Professor Wang of the first Chinese Arterial
Stiffness Evaluation Study (CASE-1), which will be published
shortly in the ISVH Journal "Vascular Health and Risk
Management".
